Summer or Winter, there is so much to see and do in the local area, the hardest job of the holiday will be deciding what to do!
With wide sandy beaches right on the doorstep you can build those sandcastles, fly kites, paddle or even swim (if you are brave enough) without even getting in the car.
Out and about, the traditional seaside town of Filey is only 3 miles away, with Bridlington and Scarborough both just down the road. Its a short 10 minute drive into Filey or you can walk along the beach, its just a 40 minute stroll. There is a small section of beach in front of the promenade which has seasonal dog restrictions (May - September) but walk along the prom to the coble landing and its back to doggie freedom! While at this end of the beach a visit to the Filey Brigg is a must, here you can spot the many bird species along this part of the coast, try spot the passing dolphin or spend some time rockpooling in the many pools in this area.
Filey is quite unique, unspoilt and traditional, you can walk the prom, wander through the crescent gardens, stop and listen to the bands playing at the bandstand, or stroll round town where you will find a range of independent shops selling local crafts and goods, no large chain shops here, sample the home baking at the many cafes or check out the best fish and chips in the area.
For bird enthusiasts the RSPB site at Bempton Cliffs is famous for its puffins, guillemots and gannets to name but a few, or you can visit the lighthouse at Flamborough Head, where you can see the resident seal colony. Visit one or all of Flamborough's 5 beaches, Selwicks Bay, Thornwick Bay, North and South Landing or Danes Dyke.
If you like a little more action or need something for older children, then a little further up the coast is Scarborough with its castle, waterparks, amusement arcades and much more. Both Scarborough and Bridlington have harbours, for crabbing or just watching the boats coming and going.
Further afield, you will find Whitby, with its links to dracula, or picturesque Robin Hoods Bay. Or, when you are all beached out, why not head inland to York, or Pickering where you can catch the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, steam trains to Whitby, or Goathland where Heartbeat was filmed. Malton is known as the food capital of Yorkshire, selling local produce its said to be a food lovers paradise. Nearby you can also find Eden Camp, Living history museum or Flamingo Land for the adventure lovers.
With all these things to do, the problem you will have is deciding which to leave out as the options for what to see and do are endless. But don't just take my word for it, come and see for yourself, I promise you wont be bored!
